Teaching is an art and Science

Teaching is an art or sciecne

If you have joined #teaching as a #profession, you must want to come to know whether teaching is an #art or #science. I read many quotes about teaching is an art as well as what is teaching science. For me it does not matter Whether teaching is an art or science because I consider it a noble profession. But the way we adopt to teach our #students in #classroom make it an art or science. The same can be said for progressive and traditional teaching. If we define teaching as an ‘attempt to help our students learn’, then teaching may be perceived as the art of applying learning research.

How to judge Teaching is an art or science?

How to judge whether teaching is an art or science? There may exist many possible ways to answer this question. I have used following two approaches to explore this whether teaching is an art or science. It will not suffer the teaching as profession.

Teaching is an art

Teaching is considered an art if the degree of teaching is a creative act, it might be said to be an artistic enterprise.  Because outstanding teaching is primarily about creating the conditions in which our students can learn most effectively and a solid understanding of how human beings learn.

Teaching is a science

I think it is fairly easy to observe whether scientific method is applicable in any particular teaching process or method, if so then we may say that teaching is a science. For example a great teacher observes their students and create basic hypotheses about the best ways to ensure their students are learning.  He then test these hypotheses via activities, assignments, and other kinds of assessments, and evaluate the results.

Theory Definition Science or Art
Perennialism   Educational perennialism is a normative educational philosophy. Perennialists believe that one should teach the things that are of everlasting pertinence to all people everywhere, and that the emphasis should be on principles, not facts. A normative Education philosophy means make use of the results of philosophical thought and of factual inquiries about human beings and the psychology of learning. On the basis of yardstick set by me in [2]. It’s a Science.
Essentialism  Educational essentialism is an educational philosophy whose adherents believe that children should learn the traditional basic subjects thoroughly. In this philosophical school of thought, the aim is to instill students with the “essentials” of academic knowledge, enacting a back-to-basics approach. Hence it’s a thorough study approach no results and hypothesis might be used either of children’s learning. ART
Progressivism Progressivism is the support for or advocacy of improvement of society by reform. As a philosophy, it is based on the Idea of Progress, which asserts that advancements in science, technology, economic development, and social organization are vital to the improvement of the human condition. As we need to measure the improvement and then to reform. Hence it’s science Science
Existentialism A philosophical theory or approach which emphasizes the existence of the individual person as a free and responsible agent determining their own development through acts of the will. A man is free to learn, he is free to create and set its own leaning. Hence its an ART ART
